History of Noida
The history of Noida is closely linked to the planned urban development of the National Capital Region. Noida stands for New Okhla Industrial Development Authority and was established on 17 April 1976 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It was created under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act, 1976 to promote industrial growth and reduce population pressure on Delhi. Earlier, the region consisted mainly of agricultural villages and rural land. With the formation of NOIDA Authority, systematic planning began with well-defined sectors, roads, and industrial zones. During the 1980s and 1990s, Noida developed as an industrial and manufacturing hub. In the early 2000s, the city transformed rapidly with the growth of IT, software, media, and multinational companies. The development of expressways and metro connectivity further boosted its expansion. Today, Noida is recognized as one of India’s major planned cities, symbolizing modern infrastructure and economic progress.
